How the shutter is built

A curtain of interlocking AR500 steel slats running in reinforced guide rails, rolled onto a steel shaft inside a closed headbox.

Interlocking AR500 steel roller shutter slats, solid end profile
AR500 steel slats — interlocking profile
The slats are made of European-made AR500 armour steel. Each slat hooks into the next along its full length, so the lowered curtain acts as one continuous steel plate. Slat thickness is set by the protection class required.
Roller shutter headbox with the cover removed, curtain wound on the shaft
Headbox, shaft and drive
The curtain rolls onto a steel shaft inside a closed headbox (shown with the inspection cover removed). A tubular motor or a manual crank drives it; motorised shutters can keep a manual override for power loss.
Built as a system. Slats, guide rails, headbox and anchoring are specified together — the protection class applies to the complete shutter as installed in the opening, not to a slat on its own.

Choose the protection class

EN 1522 classifies windows, doors and shutters by the weapon they stop. Tell us the threat — we match the class to each opening.

ClassWeapon / ammunitionDistanceTypical use
FB1.22 LR rifle10 mLow-risk service openings
FB29 mm Luger handgun5 mOffices, reception counters
FB3.357 Magnum handgun5 mBanks, cash centres
FB4.357 and .44 Magnum handgun5 mPolice stations, courts, embassies

FB65.56 × 45 and 7.62 × 51 rifle10 mMilitary and critical infrastructure
FB77.62 × 51 armour-piercing10 mHighest-threat sites

Classes per EN 1522 (requirements) and EN 1523 (test method). The class for each opening is agreed in the specification and stated in the quote. Burglar resistance is classified separately under EN 1627 (RC1N–RC6).
